New Brunswick

While the province may only have three wind farms, those farms in New Brunswick represent the some of the largest such projects in Atlantic Canada. Boasting over 294 MW in wind generating capacity currently, The government of New Brunswick is committed to increasing the amount of electricity from new renewable sources in New Brunswick to 40% by 2020. New Brunswick's major wind energy infrastructure consists of 113 turbines with a total generating capacity of 294 megawatts.

The five areas proposed for wind development are the Bay of Fundy, Tantramar, Miramichi Bay, Acadie/Chaleur and in-land New Brunswick.

The Kent Hills Wind Farm has the highest capacity in Atlantic Canada at 150 MW and the second largest quantity of turbines at 50.

Caribou Wind Park

Commissioned: 2009

The Caribou Wind Park near Bathurst represents a $200 million investment that became operational in 2009.

Hosting 33 Vestas V-90 3.0 MW turbines, the project is one of the largest in the Maritimes in terms of quantity of turbines and overall capacity.

Kent Hills Wind Farm

Representing the largest wind farm in the province, the Kent Hills Wind Farm hosts 50 3.0 MW Vestas V-90 turbines with a total capacity of 150 MW.

Completed in two phases, initially the project consisted of 32 of the Vestas turbines with a total capacity of 96 MW and was commissioned in 2008. The additional 18 turbines were commissioned in 2010.

Lamèque Wind Power Project 

Company: ACCIONA Energy
Turbine: Acciona AW 1500 - 1.5 MW
Quantity: 30
Capacity: 45 MW
Commissioned: 2011

Located on Lamèque Island, Acciona's Lamèque Wind Power Project hosts 30 of the company's AW 1500 1.5 MW turbines.

Commissioned on May 6, 2011, the project has a total capacity of 45 MW.
